Q1. What is Traditional Chinese Medication?
The oldest medical book that mentions herbs in China is the <Huang Di Nei Jing> - The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine. The book is dated from between 800 BC and 200 BC. It's a compendium of medical theory and practice attributed to the Yellow Emperor who is thought to have lived 4700 BC or to be a mythical character whose age and royal status would provide credence to a contemporary work.

The period during which the Nei Jing appeared was one of great creativity and change. By 265 BC (when some scholars believe the Nei Jing was published) the transition from a shamanistic medicine to one based on theory and an accumulated body of knowledge was almost complete. Although the Nei Jing was supposed to have been written for 2500 years, it almost exclusively discusses the medicine of theory and accumulated knowledge. So the 28 substances and 12 prescriptions listed in the Nei Jing are the first mention of the Chinese herbal medicine which continues to be practiced now.

Q2. Does Traditional Chinese Medication be used officially?

By 220 AD national and provincial governmental medical services were established. Professional specialties included prescribing physicians, senior physicians, junior physicians, apprentices and pharmacists. During the Chin Dynasty (265 AD - 420 AD) the Imperial University was established and medicine was part of the curriculum.

About 500 AD The Divine Husbandman's Classic of the Materia Medical was published. This text contained the first reference to “properties” of herbs and the first classification system for herbs other than the Five Element tastes. There were three major categories.
-Superior herbs

- those which nourish life

-Middle Herbs

- those which correct constitution-Inferior herbs

- those which expel disease

The Divine Husbandman's Classic also sorted herbs by taste and temperature and it warned of toxic herbs. The catalog of substances contained plants, animals and minerals.

In 659 AD The Newly Revised Materia Medical, the first illustrated text of herbs, containing 844 entries, was published. 1108 AD saw the appearance of the Materia Medical Arranged According to Pattern which had 1558 entries. 1596 AD brought The Grand Materia Medical with 1892 entries. About 1977 5,767 entries were listed in the Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicinal Substances.

The period from 659 to the 1700 saw the birth and evolution of several important components of herbal medicine theory. These components have continued to be used till this day and are presented in the section Theory of Herbal Medicine.

Q3. What is the different between Chinese Medication and Western Medication?
Western Medication use high tech machine to test patients' inside organ and tissues. And then, they learn and summarize the mechanism. Finally, use medicine or operation to cure patients' disease. This is from inside to out side and is called “in-out method”. However, Traditional Chinese Medication is “out-in method” without damage to patients' body.

Traditional Chinese Herbalist believes:

1. All the organs are connected and influent to each other in human body. That is whole unity!

2. Chinese Herbalist treats human body is a “Black Box”.

3. Chinese Herbalists follow the rule “Something imbalance inside must show outside.” because all the human body is a unity and each organ connects and influence each other.

Chinese Herbalist can get patients health information by the appearance of patients. The following is diagnosis method which is commonly used:1. Visual Exam and Tongue2. Smelling and Listening 3. Interview and Asking4. Pulse and Touching

There is an instance about selecting water melon. It is very similar to the diagnosis of Tradition Chinese Medication. A melon expert can select a good water melon without cutting the melon. In the 20th century Oriental Medicine serves almost two billion people in Far East Asia, the former Soviet Union and Europe. In the U.S. thirty-eight states have scope of practice for NCCAOM National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine or equivalent level practitioners. Q6. What is theory?
Chinese philosophers think the Universe, Human and Earth is a unity! Each organ inside human body also is connected to each other. The rules are the same! Chinese Herbalist also use YIN & YANG to explain the relationship between each other.

From their search for the laws of the universe the Taoists discovered within the apparent chaos of nature a predictable and rhythmic cycle - Yin & Yang. Because the law of Yin & Yang can be applied to anything in existence, it is a very powerful tool of analysis and understanding. There are five points to the law of Yin & Yang.

1) OPPOSITIONEverything has two opposite aspects. Yin & Yang struggle with and control each other.

2) INTER-DEPENDENCEYin & Yang define each other and therefore one cannot exist without the other. (If there is no down, which way is up?)

3) MUTUAL CONSUMPTION & SUPPORT Yin & Yang give nourishment to each other.

4) INTER-TRANSFORMATIONYin can become Yang and Yang can become Yin. In fact, this is inevitable if the growth of one or the other is uncontrolled.

5) INFINITE SUBDIVISIBLITYThere is always a bit of one in the other. Anything can be subdivided again and again.

Q7. What is the relation between Traditional Chinese Medication and Chinese Culture?

Taoism is the most influential root of Oriental Medicine. The Taoists mainly focus on the observable and natural laws of the universe and the implications for human beings' relationship to the universe. 2500 years (5000BC - 500BC) allowed much time for observation, study and speculation by many people. This activity yielded myriad principles. Following are five of the fundamental principles and applications of them to health and healing.

1. THERE ARE NATURAL LAWS THAT GOVERN THE UNIVERSE.You are part of the universe and therefore exist according to and subject to those laws.

2. THE NATURAL ORDER OF THE UNIVERSE IS HARMONIUS AND ORGANIZED.
If you live according to its laws , you will be harmonious.

3. THE UNIVERSE IS DYNAMIC; CHANGE IS A CONSTANT.Lack of change is contrary to the universe and therefore causes illness.

4. ALL LIFE IS INTERCONNECTED Always use a system approach.

5. HUMANS ARE A PART OF THE UNIVERSE, NOT OUTSIDE OF IT. WE ARE INTIMATELY CONNECTED TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND THUS THE UNIVERSE.
Your health is affected by your environment. These principles are the axioms about existence that form the foundation for Yin & Yang, The Five Elements, and Qi (pronounced chee). And those concepts are the primary engines of Oriental Medicine.

There is great difference in recovery percentage! Patients need to ask their herbalist to show them the successful cases completely cured by that herbalist. If that herbalist really can show many true recovery cases, patients can try to follow that herbalist's medication. However, patients need to transfer to Thyroid Throu if that Herbalist can't provide enough successful recovery cases.

It is very similar to the Water Melon expert we mentioned in Q3. Experts in water melon can select a good water melon higher than 98% while others just can select good water melon at 50%.

Q11. What is the drawback of Western Medication and Chinese Medication?
Western Medication is equipped with precise machine that can know the mechanism of many diseases caused by bacteria. After knowing the mechanism, Western Medication can focus on treating the root of disease with antibiotics, chemotherapeutics. So the treatment is direct and quick to see the effect. However, the drawback is side effect existing at the same time. Also, it is very rare to take patient individual condition into consideration.

Chinese Medication focuses on the symptoms showed in patients and varies the herbs combination according to patient's condition. This medication always takes patients condition to consideration and leads to Harmony / Balance to patient's Health.

Also, Chinese Medication takes human body as a “Black Box”- just let all the symptoms return to Harmony / Balance position that makes patients be cured naturally. It is the great benefit for patients. Since there are some diseases even scientists don't know the mechanism of the disease in Western Medication. Especially for endocrinopathic disease, scientists still don't know what is the cause of thyroid disease. Western Medication becomes powerless in front of such disease.

Actually, Traditional Chinese Medication can cover the shortage of Western Medication. And, the precise of Western Medication also can help Chinese Medication to diagnose diseases. There is no conflict in protecting human health between these 2 medication. They can cooperate and get better treatment for human health.
